THE MISSION STATEMENT

Lutheran High School Northwest is committed to equip students for a life of Christian service through a curriculum of academic excellence, encouraged through a caring Christ-centered environment where God's word is shared daily.

Northwest Project Updates!

I. New Front Sign: Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our Parent Network and some key donations, our goal to raise the money to replace the front sign has been reached! The new front sign has been ordered and should be installed and operating by the end of this summer! Thank you, thank you, thank you, parents!

II. Memorial Field Renovations - Dedicated in Memory of Kristin Horstmann and Jim Bentley, this athletic field is in desperate need of repair for football, soccer and track. We have 3 separate phases planned for the Memorial Field project.

Phase I: Field renovations: Again, thanks to the efforts of our parents in the Crusader Booster Club, and the generous support of our Lutheran High School Association, we will be completing Phase I this summer. This means stripping the current field, putting in irrigation, drainage and a crown plus a new sod field! This will be ready to go for fall use!

Phase II: Bleacher/Press box renovation. This phase is going to be put "on hold" in order to do the more necessary track repair and prep. The Bleacher/Press box renovation will be a focus for next summer's capital project list.

Projected cost: Pending

Phase III: Track replacement: Thanks to our Lutheran High School Association support, we will be going ahead with the 1.5 inch asphalt addition to the current track; also, it will be re-striped. This would have to be done before it could be rubberized regardless.

Projected cost: Pending

Allocated money to date: $25,000

Additional good news! It was not listed in this list of projects due to on-going investigation and research but computers are due! We will be replacing nearly all of our computers in the computer lab! Looking for a quick donation idea??? We still need more computers for our library … consider donating to the "computer fund".

The 2007-2008 School Year Begins August 27, 2007 - Half Day

Freshmen and New Student Orientation Night

On Wednesday August 22, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. Lutheran Northwest will host an informational orientation for all incoming freshmen and transfers. This is required for all incoming students and is very important for parents. LHNW and Parent Network invite all new students and their parents to stay for dinner after the orientation. Freshmen will receive their schedules at this meeting.

Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students

Physicals & Immunizations

As required by state law, all incoming freshmen and transfer students for the 2007-2008 school year must turn in a health physical with a list of up-to-date immunizations, signed by a health professional, before the school year begins. Physical forms are included in this mailing and are also available in the school office. This physical must be taken between April 15, 2007, and August 27, 2007. The completed forms may be mailed to the school office or brought to orientation night.

Summer Office Hours

The school office is open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Thank You from the NW Faculty and Staff

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

Thank you to the Parent Network and all the parents who contributed to make the Teacher appreciation luncheon so delicious. We are truly blessed with generous and thoughtful parents. Knowing that we are thought of and appreciated makes our jobs a lot easier.

Dress Code

Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind when shopping for school clothes.

Spirit Wear

We will be allow most items of Crusader Spirit Wear to be worn daily, so we encourage families to purchase Spirit Wear clothing from the crusader Spirit Wear shop. Call the school office for more information.

Points of Emphasis:

Boys - Your pants must fit appropriately...at the waist, not below!

Hair should be short enough that it does not touch the shirt collar and the ear is not completely covered. Bangs are not to be lower than the forehead.

Girls - No midriff is to be showing! Shirts and blouses must completely cover mid-section. Skirts and dresses must be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee.

Shorts: No shorter than mid-thigh or "finger-tip" length.

Shoes: Rubber sole flip-flop type sandals with one strap and no back are not permitted. "Athletic Sandals" are NOT permitted. Sandals if worn must have front and back straps.

SENIORS - Class of 2008 - SENIOR PICTURES

PARENTS of Seniors

Now is the time to take care of your son or daughter's senior portraits.

Prestige Portraits is the "official" photography studio for LHNW. What does that mean? They provide LHNW with the class composites that hang in the hall; each senior receives a copy as well. They provide a copy of each senior's picture for use in our yearbook. They also provide financial support for our yearbook when they return a percentage of their sales to LHNW to help reduce the cost of our yearbook.

You should have received information from Prestige Portraits. If you wish to make an appointment or if you have questions about locations and hours that they can best answer, please call their Oakland Township studio at 248-377-2444 or their Royal Oak studio at 248-548-7660.

Note that the last day to be photographed in order to appear in the yearbook is Saturday, September 8, 2007. You must also remember to designate your yearbook pose selection by Saturday, September 22. If you do not select your pose by this deadline, Prestige will select a pose for you.

If you do not wish to have your graduation portrait taken by Prestige, please consider going to Prestige for at least the yearbook and composite picture; in so doing, your son's or daughter's yearbook picture will have the same background as the other students, and your son's or daughter's picture will appear in the class composite. The charge for approximately six poses for the yearbook against the standard background is $25, and the $10.00-OFF coupon is valid through most of July. If your yearbook picture is not taken by Prestige, please make sure that Mr. Prechel receives a copy of your senior portrait to be included in the yearbook. However, you will not be included in the class composite.

2007 - 2008 ACT/SAT Tests

Juniors and seniors need to plan on taking the ACT and or the SAT Tests. The school Code is 231-408. You may apply online or wait until the school receives the new forms.

Check out these websites: www.act.org  or www.collegeboard.com.

PSAT Test Takers

Juniors who want to take the PSAT Exam must register at their local public schools in order to take this test. LHNW does not offer this exam at this time; plans are being made to offer this in 2008.

MME Exams

Watch for more information on the retake of this exam for seniors. Juniors will take it for the first time in the Spring.

Joy Hours

Summer is a great time to earn Joy Hours. Remember that each student must volunteer twenty hours of community/church service each year in order to be promoted to the next grade. Please contact Mr. McDonald with any concerns.

Change of Contact Information

If you move to another residence, change your phone number (home or work), or e-mail address, please notify the school office so that we can update our records and you can continue to receive school correspondence.

Paper Recycling

Please continue to drop off your recyclable paper at the paper bin in the school parking lot. The bin will be emptied periodically throughout the summer.

Parking Tags Available in the office beginning July 15, 2007

All students must register their car with the school office and purchase a parking tag to use the school student parking lot for the 2007-2008 school year. The price for parking tags is $10.00 each. Parking tags are required for easy identification of cars in our parking lot on a daily basis. Students interested in a parking tag can see Mrs. Baldwin to purchase their tag. Tags are to be purchased no later than the 1st day of class on August 27, 2007.

Student Parking

All students must park in the back parking lot behind the gymnasium or in the spaces along the baseball field. Students who park in the front parking spaces reserved for faculty and guests or outside normal student parking spaces will be subject to disciplinary action from the Assistant Principal. This policy is in effect any time a student is at school with their vehicle. If students or parents have any questions, please speak with Mr. McLoughlin directly to make sure there is no misunderstanding concerning this policy.

The request for student assistance has increased by 300%! Many of our families are in need of assistance. Please pray for these families. And for those of us whom God has richly blessed, please plan on being very involved this year, whether attending, helping to raise money, giving a donation of money, goods or services for this worthy cause! Lutheran High Northwest will also benefit from the proceeds since we are hosting the event.
